Derek S. Maroun, O.D.

Dr. Maroun has been practicing in the Charleston area for the last six years before joining EyeCare Specialties of Charleston. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. Maroun graduated from Dalhousie University with an advanced double major Bachelors of Sciences, majoring in biology and chemistry. Always wanting to practice in the health sciences, he chose Optometry given the importance of sight as our major sense. He attended The New England College of Optometry, in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating with honors. Wanting to specialize further in the field, he completed a residency program at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. The major study of focus was ocular disease diagnosis and management. Graduating in 1999, he has practiced in several different modes including primary care and LASIK surgical center care. He is the current President of the Coastal Carolina Optometric Society and an active member of the American Optometric Association.

In his downtime you can find him surfing, paddle boarding, fly fishing, and boating. Heck, anything that involves water and the outdoors. That is of when he is not tinkering with classic cars.
